Oink Oink Oink!

The Today Show this morning..

The Swine Flu.

Oh are we in for it.

I know that the schools have been trying to prepare for the swine flu....and the CDC predicts that 90,000 people will die from it this fall, and 50% of the entire population will come down with the swine flu.

on a level of 1-5 of epidemic, we are at level 4.

Why hasn't this come out before now??! maybe they didn't want to have a would wide panic, huh?

They are not closing schools yet, but that might have to be an option the future.

I can't imagine it.

Friends of ours were here in July...they live in Florida. They left their two boys at home with a friend, and the boys were at camp.

Swine flu broke out at the camp. The friend got swine flu, but the boys never did.

Their home was under quarantine and they didn't see their boys for days.

CRAZY!

So the schools are saying that if your child has a temp, flu-like symptoms, runny nose...keep them home. Get them to a dr. and get tested for the Swine Flu.

Wellll...........that's all well and good, but my kid ALWAYS feels like this. and I can't run him to the dr. every time he has a runny nose OR keep him home from school. Our school system only allows 18 days absence a year. I wonder if they are going to change that....maybe we'll just have to see what happens.

But it's kind of scary...kids with asthma are one of the groups to watch, because there could be alot of deaths there. So should I send him to school with a face mask, like Michael Jackson? Don't tempt me...I WILL do it. he won't wear it, but I will get him some!

All my family has asthma. Eldest has one lung that will collapse upon heavy coughing. I am scared to death. Terrified.

Have you looked at the statistics for the REGULAR flu?

Okay, me neither, but from I hear, they have been bad for YEARS!

My suggestion? Wash your hands, a LOT! If your stores don't provide the germ killer wipes to wipe the handles of the buggy down, take your own. Keep all your door handles wiped with a Clorox wipe, or spray with lysol, DAILY! Do not EVER put your hands on or near your face or mouth. I for one can't stand to have ANYONES hands near my face. Not even my own.

Make sure your kids know to wash their hands. It's the BEST way. They are touching all those nasty ass germs at school all day, and there is no telling who (or what) else has touched all that stuff. It grosses me out to think about it.

Yes, some people will die. The various strains of flu kill people annually. Most people will just get sick though. The level has to do with how widespread the illness is, not how deadly it is.

Out here they have been telling people to stay home and to not go to the doctor unless certain symptoms show up like very high fever or if you have a secondary bacterial infection. Because guess what? It's the flu. There is not much a doctor can do as such.

I am there with you- Lala and I both have airway diseases.. that said, its not nearly as drastic as the basic flu (per Bina) and, in fact, way more people are killed annually from the regular flu virus. And it impacts us wheezers the worse.

So, that said, I am just keeping calm, staying hydrated, staying rested, and trying to keep my immune system happy and health.

I've wondered about the school sick day policy and if they'll change it every time I hear the recommendations. I fully expect colleges to close, too.

It's kind of a scary time, for sure.

So now asmatic and allergic kids will feel the shame and indignity that minorities and homosexuals felt when I was a kid.

Can't we EVER just all love each other! Poor kids! They can't help being asmatic anymore than we could help being gay. But now, everytime they sneeze, they'll be treated like a leper!

I need a drink!

Reports in the spring after Mexico was hit that this was going to hit the world big in the autumn were just laughed at, blamed on media frenzy. Guess they thought it funny 1 report, then 2, then 4...uhhh, remember the old question about starting with a penny and doubling it every day? Gah!

Buying hand sanitizer...

I frankly doubt those predictions.. maybe world wide but that would mean taking 90,00 dividing into 6,200,000,000 = a percentage so low more people than that died of stuff while I was typing this!
