So.....
yesterday was my class to get my CCW license.
It was 12 hours long.
in an un-heated garage..
with 13 "good old boys" and a few women, one being my friend Vicki.
While it was fun...cuz we made fun of the "good old boys" all day long..
my goodness, I was frozen SOLID when I got home. and we all gave $5-10 to get pizza, and we got 2 slices each. done. that was it. the guy bought 2 sheets of pizza. So I was frozen AND hungry when I got home. Not a good combination, to say the least.
But the class was interesting. Lots of bookwork, for about 10 hours...then the last 2 we actually got to work with our guns.
I had Marvin's .357, vick had a .38 special. Marvin also brought his .40 cal., which is a semi-automatic.
The revolver was a little hard for me to shoot. The trigger was hard. But the semi? OMG...sign me up. I gotta get me one of those!!!! it was so smooth and easy. and the instructor did something really cool.
He was talking about breath control and keeping the gun steady and stuff, and then he balanced 5 pennies on the end of his gun, balanced on the front sites. he pulled the trigger....and the pennies never moved. COOL!
so I asked him how he would do that on my revolver cuz the sites were different, and he made me get up in front of the class and try it myself!
UH OH!
So I did,...got into my shooting stance, and he balanced the pennies on the site....and I did it!!! the pennies never moved!!!! WOOHOO!!!!
then later on, I did it again, with the revolver and the semi!!!! I told Marvin I'm gonna be SICK at shooting!!! I'm gonna practice and practice. I really enjoyed myself. So we passed the class, will get our certificate and then can apply for our license.
While I don't actually plan on carrying a concealed weapon, I will be legally allowed to. I just want to know how to shoot correctly and be able to defend myself should anyone break into my home. Its mainly for self defense...that and Marvin always forgets his gun int he car, then I drive the car! I could get pulled over and get into some big trouble with a gun in the car.
So the good old boys" in the class.....oh man. You guys know me by know...I hate stupidity and I hate ignorant assholes. Well, there were a couple guys who were that and more. I will save those stories for another day!

I have three pistols, and a lot of rifles and shotguns...I only have hunting and target permits for the hand guns, which is OK with me! Me + Road rage + gun = would be a bad idea!
Beth that is an awesome post. My family was gun carrying fools. My father, mother, grand-mother and I all had our license to carry a firearm.
Family day outing was going to the range to shoot all kinds of guns. The worst gun I ever shot was a musket gun. The gun powder blew into my eyes. ouch did that hurt.
So congrats on getting your license!!
If you are truly interested in home protection, then what you want is a pump action shotgun loaded with rock salt. Effective without the legal issues. Really.
OK, so it wasn't until the third reading that I saw you said 'the pennies never moved' cause I kept reading 'the penis never moved' and was very confused.

My hubs is getting on a gun kick lately...now its a new rifle that he wants..Im so impressed you are doing it..especially with the good ole boys...My daughter did some gun training or practicing in Hawaii a few weeks ago..she really loved it...maybe I would try it as well...I would love to be called a pistol packing Mama...EnJoY.YoUr.DaY..!
First, I think that it is hot to go to a range with your partner and the both of you can shoot. When we were stationed together, I could out shoot my girl... don't know about now, but would love it if we were to find out.
That is a good reason to get a CCW. That could be some trouble if y'all got pulled and they found a weapon with out Marvin being around.
Now hear me out first.
I hate guns, they worry me sick when you have small or young kids anywhere in your home. Even if you have schooled your children on the ins and outs of guns.
Also when you get in an altercation its always some dipshit that wants to whip his gun out and wave it around like he's Billybadass, which really pisses me off. I hate guns but am not terrified of them.
Anyho, My Mom, Sisters, and numerous family members have always or are currently working in law enforcement to some degree and
I'm proud they are trained and able to use a gun to kill any motherfucker that wishes to do them harm.
Beth, My Mom who would have to go and qualify every 6 months with a shotgun would just crack me the hell up carrying the shotgun to the car. She looked like Granny Clampet going to get some vittles. My main concern was if she would even be able to hit a target seeing her eye sight was shot to hell.
