Ezra Michael, the next US President. :)

My new grandson is here!!

we left Ohio Friday night about 11pm...hoping to get to NC around 10-11am. I had talked to Rae earlier in the day and she said she "didn't feel good".....ok.

So around 6am we get a call from her, while we're on the road.

"Mom...I think my water broke, and I feel crampy"

"Ok..call your midwife and let her know..we're about 4 hours away."

so a little while later she calls back,

"I'm having contractions about every 4 minutes and I leak water with every one."

WE'RE HAVING US A BABY TODAY!!!!

So we pull into their drive around 11am. Rae is on her exercise ball, breathing through the contractions, but not really sweating it at all....very calm and relaxed...still not really sure if this was the REAL thing or not. Her midwife shows up, and they're talking and the midwife is telling her that it takes a loonnnnggg time to get to 5 cm, and to just relax....

Well, she checked her and she was 6-7 cm already!!!

Things really got moving after that!

The midwife and her people got busy scurrying around, setting up the pool in the living room. Oh..did I tell you they planned a home birth? No? they're having the baby at home in a pool of hot water!

So they get things set up and contractions are really coming now....she's in the pool, she's outta the pool....breathing and SO CALM during the whole thing. She really impressed me.

She got back in the water with Mike and she pushed for about an hour and out came Ezra Michael!! Born at 4:36pm.

Oh, and I GOT TO HELP DELIVER HIM!!! How cool is THAT? Rae and I both got to pull him out. It was just the most amazing thing ever. I would recommend a home birth to anyone. Rae got out of the pool, got into bed, nursed Ezra...just like she had been doing it her whole life. What an amazing , strong woman she is.

So, the week that we planned to spend just the two of us...shopping...talking...is now consumed with Little Man.

He weighed 6lbs 9ozs and was 19 ins. long. and looks JUST like his Daddy!!! he's a handsome little guy. I'll try to post pics so ya'll can see him, if you haven't seen him on Facebook already! ;)

Oh, and the best part? Marvin got to watch the whole thing and he even videotaped the birth! He wasn't too crazy about having the baby at home, but it all went smoothly, and he was relieved. And he left last night to go back to Ohio, even tho he didn't want to leave. I've been instructed to send a pic of EZ every day while Im here. :)

As an RN, let me tell you that home births are dangerous and foolish.

No: I disagree. SOME home births might be that way....this one was not. Mother was healthy, baby was healthy. Everyone was prepared to go to the hospital if needed. It was not.
