crafty wednesday
I was feeling "crafty" yesterday. I wanted to make "something" but didn't really know what.
I had this old lamp shade in the basement, sitting on top of the dryer. It was old and kinda falling apart. sooooooo..........(ignore the laundry on the table)
I started ripping it apart! I first thought I'd keep the ribbon, but it was dirty and nasty, so fuhgetaboutit!
then I dragged out my box of Christmas lights...
and, starting at the top of the lamp shade frame, I started wrapping the lights around the frame. and i fastened them to the frame with twist ties from the garbage bags! hey, it's all I had, ok?
This is what it looked like with the lights wrapped all around the frame. This was 4 strings of lights. I just plugged the next string into the previous one, and kind of hid it in the whole mess. :)
Then again, around the bottom of the frame, I fastened the string to the frame with the famous twist ties. those things come in handy, and I always have a drawer full of them cuz we just tie the garbage bags shut. Wait, what was I talking about again?.....
I hung the whole thing from the ceiling by my bed!! I love it!
If you do make this, be sure to start from the TOP of the frame...and give yourself plenty of string to hang it up by. I used 4 strings of lights, but you could less for more "atmosphere" or even fit another 1-2 strings on there to make it brighter. The only bad thing? I gotta get outta bed to unplug it!

fun!
froggy: i really like it by my bed! it kinda "glows" and I love christmas lights anyway...now I can have them year round. :)
You are so crafty!
XOXOXOXO
That is SERIOUSLY cool! What a great idea!
so now cut the cord at the top of the shade and with wire nuts attach a plain extension cord that you have put a switch in and et voila you have a completed lamp - if you dont want to cut the cord wrap the rest of the lights around the frame and plug it into a cord - - just my thoughts
Very clever!! Hey, if you don't want to have to unplug it when you go to bed, then plug it into a timer and set the timer to turn off at the time you usually go to bed. Ta da!! :-)
Great idea guys!
I need you in my camp! Could you imagaine that on a much bigger scale as a huge dress for a drag queen and it lit up!?!
oh Maddie!!! that would be FABULOUS!!!
